oil leak or chain lube drip?

this has been going on for 3 years now. after i ride a couple of drops of oil (?) drips down from around the front sprocket area. i can not find the location of the problem. i have pulled off the cover for the front sprocket and there is some build up of chain lube. my slave for the clutch is not leaking. does anyone have this problem?

Pull the cover off and clean the area. Then ride. Prolly the countershaft or shift shaft seals leaking

gonna have to scrape it out, then a good stiff brush with simple green. don't let the simple green sit on the swingarm.

I do have the same problem it leaves oil spots in my garage. but like you said only when it is hot. the bikes been at my friends shop for the winter and not a drop under it, never had to add any oil, so i just thought, as u did that it's chain lube. but i installed a new chain and have put very little lube on it so i have to think it's coming from the sproket seal. just not sure that it's worth fixing at this point of time. even though I hate things that leak.

Steve is exactly right: you got to get all the gunk/shite/crap scrapped out. Then wiped down. Not 100% new bike condition but close. Then take her for a regular ride spin. Come home, park and observe. If it's still "spots" you've got a seal issue. If it doesn't....then you had a gunk-around-the-counter-shaft-sproket-got-just-warm-enough-to-partially-liquify issue. Have had that happen many times. Funny, but mostly with Chain Wax chain lube. I don't touch that crap anymore. YMMV.
I'm not completely useless. I can always be used as a bad example.

Got the same problem but I found that it is the Shift Shaft seal on the outside, cheap part and lucky because it is not on the inside of the case. I found that I wouldn't see any drips if there was a build up of chainlube.
Some days it's not worth chewing through the leather straps.
