Shinko 009 Raven Rear

I just put a 009 on the rear of my rex and I believe it says made in Thailand, not Korea. Mounted myself, not too big a deal. It does need some balance, picks up a shake at around 110 to 120.

The big pile of 009's I have lying around all say Made In Korea on them. That's up to a manufacturing date of mid-March of 2012.

man I wish I could get 8-9K out of one of those rears. 5K and mine are toast. no burnouts either. I do like to spin it up in first gear alot though. must be the road surface.

Coming up on 9,000 miles on the rear 009, still sitting about 2 mm of tread, so not as much wear as I thought I was having in the last report. I am a performance commuter for 85% of my miles (fancy way to say I ride straight up on the interstate 34 miles round trip for work), and the best advice I can offer for the 009 is to keep them at around 41 psi, especially the rear. Getting 9000 miles out of a tire on a bike with this kind of torque is pretty nice!

I will run the ZRX more and ride my other bikes less in the next couple months to get the tire worn out and a new one on in the fall for the getting me through the winter and into next years riding season.

Update later, hopefully with the final mileage tally when I change the tire out.

Final update:

Replaced the rear Shinko 009 at 10,600 miles on the tire. Still had a bit of wear left before the bars, not going to push it though. I went with a Shinko 011 Verge for the new rear tire. FWIW, the shop used 1/2 oz of weight in one spot to balance. New tire has 7-7.5mm of tread depth to start. Picked up a front tire, Verge 011, for when the Shinko 009 wears out sometime this summer.

I can recommend the Shinko's fully.

ZRX1100 mildly modded. Low mile dialed in bike.

I mounted a set of Shinko 09's after all the reviews on them.

Wuz looking for a smooth riding good wearing tire set. Wasn't expecting high end grip or performance.

About 20min from the shop I turned around and had them yank the front 09 off and replaced it with a Pirelli Angel.
The Shinko front turned in "odd", had less grip than I was comfy with and despite balancing easily with very lil weight it had a high speed wobble and hands off bars shimmy.
The Pirelli Angel is a fantastic front tire BTW!

The Shinko 09 rear works well. It is smooth, grips ok and should wear well.

This combo is a nice setup for the ZRX. The Angel front is stellar....the Shinko rear should stand up to the typical rear tire abuse ZRX riding is all about! and for the price I won't lose sleep when ass raping it either

It actually sounds like a balance or some install issue.
Whatever. Ive gone through 4 sets freeway and canyon aggressive after warm up and had no unexpected surprises other than good.

Yeah...I figured Id get static about not breaking the front in before deciding.

I am well aware of breakin procedures for tires.....prolly a few hundred behind me.
I also know a tire that just ain't right too.
The install was a very competent job...and was troubleshot before yanking the tire regardless.
No defects and it balanced easily with lil weight....re/re was very sano.
The shop treats me well cuz I spend lots of $$ there over the yrs and am loyal and will allow me to swap the tire for a different one IF I do it right away so they can still use it as a "new" tire on they're used fleet or to someone willing to accpet a small discount on such a tire.
This is why I needed to make the decision without scrubbing up the tire fully.

The point of my post was simply to relay my perception of the Shinko...particularily the front for others to consider.
Shinko rear with something a lil higher quality/performance....makes a nice setup.

On a different bike with a different rider they may find it just peachy....just one riders opinion

The way I ride the ZRX vs my other bikes makes the rear tire a very sacrificial wear item... ....so the Shinko makes great sense here.....The front still needs to be grippy and smooooth, resist the inevitable cupping these bikes suffer from so a better front tire is appreciated here

The Pirelli Angel was $163 where the Shinko was $109....CDN prices.

Was well worth the extra $50 to me...have a couple hundred miles on the setup now....really likin the Angel.
If money was no object I'd run the Angels as a set but it is..... and like I said I'm not very kind to the ZRX rear tire! lol

'Course back in the early 80's I(we) used to skate around on rock hard bias tires with ill handling heavy 100hp bikes...was all part of the fun....funny how picky I(we've) become eh?? lol

True, so of my old antics on metzlers back in the day. I shake my own head at my stupidity. I thought tires stepping out
and almost high siding was almost normal when running hard.

The Shinko 09 rear works well. It is smooth, grips ok and should wear well.

Shinko 09 front....

I'm going to second this vote. I didn't mind the 009 front, but I did find myself catching front end slides "more" often than I typically would at my relatively slow pace. Though I've run a number of 009 rears (inlcuding the one currently mounted to the ZRX) I've opted for D616 fronts over the 009 fronts (curse Roland and Chris). I get comprable mileage from the D616, it works well with the 009 rear, isn't significantly more expensive than the 009 front, and I ain't always having to be on my toes at corner turn in to see if the front's gonna break loose or not.....and I like sliding the front.
