SEATTLE AREA: ride this Saturday 10-15?

Looks like a window of opportunity to ride Saturday and stay dry. I will be checking weather radar, looking skyward and setting out in some direction Saturday morning from the Sea Tac Airport area around 8 or 9 am. I plan on being back home around 3 (give or take).

If anyone is looking to ride Saturday chime in and I'll head your way. I'd be willing to start earlier to get to a further away meeting place. Your route or mine matters not to me so long as we aren't headed for a steady diet of big black clouds. If there are several of us that can get out and ride we can sort out the ride details by Friday evening.

I plan on heading out Friday afternoon and returning sometime Sunday. Oh. That's right. It's October in 'Bama and not Seattle.
I'm not completely useless. I can always be used as a bad example.

What do you have in mind, Lon? I am working on Dave's bike this weekend, but may be able to sneak away for a bit -- but you probably want to do something different from your last ride, which was in my general neighborhood.

Mike, hi. I am looking to ride in any direction where rainfall is not expected to be prevalent and the roads aren't always straight and filled with lots of cars and the like. At this time the northern convergence zone looks dry.

If somewhere in Skagit County were a meeting place would you be willing to reveal some roads that you may know in and around around Skagit and Whatcom Counties to myself and others that may yet choose to go?

Other options in the north end: The Jordan Road between Granite Falls and Arlington is on my to do list or if the group were to meet in Sedro Woolley around 8:30 it might be entertaining to see how far we get over the North Cascades Highway in a couple of hours before turning back. I'm flexible; whatever you can fit in around the bike project works for me.

I'll check back in Friday by 6 pm to see your reply and to see if others are able to join. Lets plan on finalizing by 7 Friday night.

I'll pm you my cell number. Maybe leave the Snohomish area about noon or a bit before? I know some back roads to Granite Falls, and we can take Jordan Road to Arlington. Then maybe north on Hwy 9, cut west to Chuckanut Drive, come back however you want. Alternatively catch Hwy 20 east, head south at Concrete to Darrington. Play it by ear if we need to.

I should have a better idea of my get-away-ability by mid-morning.

Wow. That brings back memories: Chuckanut Drive, from my college days at the You Dub (UW) when we'd wander up there to see buddies who were going to Western Washington University. Thanks for the flash back.

Looks like Chuckanut is out for today since Lon needs to be home by 3pm. But yes, I plan to hit Chuckanut and Mt. Baker one of these times ...

Lon should be here within the half hour. We'll try to post a ride report!

I got home about 4pm. After tweeking Lon's fork preload, we headed out into the cool, overcast, slightly foggy morning. Hit Elliott Rd, High Bridge Rd, Tualco Loop Rd, Ben Howard Rd to Sultan, then took Old Owen Rd to Monroe. Headed north on Woods Creek Rd to Lake Roesiger Rd, where we stopped at the Lake Roesiger store for some warm-up coffee. From there continued up Robe-Menzel Rd to Granite Falls, and caught Jordan Rd heading to Arlington. About half-way up Jordan Rd the sun finally broke through the clouds, and we had glorious sunshine the rest of the way! Temps stayed in the 50's so I didn't shed any layers of clothing. We found a nice little cafe/drive-in to have lunch. Then we headed west on Hwy 530 to Pioneer Hwy and through Sylvana to Stanwood. From Stanwood we looped south on Marine Drive all the way into Marysville, where Lon headed south on I-5 and I headed east to Hwy 9 and home. Lon probably got home before me since I sat in construction on Hwy 9 for a while near Lake Stevens.

Thanks for the ride suggestion, Lon, and thanks for the lunch! We didn't get many pics, and I forgot to put the memory card in my camera, so I'll have to download them from my camera's internal memory when I can find the adapter cord.

Nice ride on some fun roads with a great guy. Thanks again, Lon!

Thanks for the suspension set up Mike; the front end is noticeably improved. U rock.

Got home about a few minutes after 4:00 and didn't want to stop; a pleasant day it is.

If fortune smiles upon the Northwest and another pleasant fall day appears around the end of this month, nature is likely to be showing off some great foliage.

Should Saturday 10-29 or Sunday 10-30 happen to be a pleasant enough day and winds haven't defoliated the trees would anyone be up for a scenic ride?

If the temps are reasonable a 3 pass ramble over Stevens, Blewett and Snoqualmie could be gorgeous; or there are lots of options without crossing the mountains. The Peninsula perhaps? The height of Fall splendor is fast approaching.

Looks like my camera doesn't have internal memory, so no pics were recorded! Sorry Lon; we'll just have to treasure those grand vistas in our memories ...

I'll do some more looking into suspension settings, but yours isn't too far off. I suspect you actually do have stiffer springs than stock.

We may be out of town that weekend, but if we don't go, and the weather holds, I'd be interested!

Extended forecasts do not bode well for the 29th or 30th. One service shows sunny; three others rain. We'll see. As the dates draw nearer should a window of opportunity present itself I'll put something out to check for interest and availability. If hard frost and wind storms hold off this should be a good year for foliage.

No worries about the pictures; my internal memory is challenged too.
