My buddy thinks he got the trip meter knob fixed. He pulled the meter apart and used a piece of small aluminum tubing and red locktite to repair the shaft behind the speedo. Hope it works.
I guess you know this now but the earlier model twists opposite to remove and the late model has a small screw holding the knob on. It's small things like this that you should stop and maybe take a breath and ask about or you will spend unnecessary money to fix.

I have some of the OEM tank stickers here if you need one.

I've got everything to get the bike done except for a tank sticker. The motor will be going back in on Sunday. Rebuilt the front master and used DOT5 fluid. It all leaked out from the lever. Meter is fixed. Found the original spare taped inside the taillight lens...weird.

Do you want me to send you a tank sticker? It is A OEM sticker so you must be careful applying it, they tear easy.

Is that a 630 chain? If so pm Dave Ditner he can set you up with a 530 chain and sprockets.

Inspect those oil cooler lines, they have a history of dry rotting and it's easy to replace them with new hose, let me know if you need the procedure.

Send the pics of the Kerkers when you get a sec.

    Bike is looking good.

Appreciate the offer. I'm waiting on one of Giannis custom Honda stickers.

The chain and sprockets are off an 82 school bike.

Oil cooler lines are new from Tim's.

I'll get a pic this weekend of the Kerkers. If this pipe deal doesn't go through, I may keep them and have them restored.

I need a flasher relay. Do you have one?

Thanks, I'm getting excited! I hope to have it running for Daytona.

The factory "sticker" is an alcohol transfer/decal.

If I'm not mistaken the flasher is the same as an automotive twelve volt old style flasher, just bring the old one to an auto zone and match it up, if your's is missing altogether just match the position of the prongs in the harness to the new flasher, two prong.

I just got off Bike Bandit's site, they want $63 for the relay, so I would try the automotive flasher first.

    Okay on everything else.

Looking good! That bike sure will be a treat to ride when it's done with that big air cooled six. I'd be making all sorts of noise if I rode it around.

You know a guy gave me a black Bassani 6 into 2 into 1 for my letting him ride my 82 with a Supertrapp on it. He liked that fact that it was stainless, and liked the looks of it, just wanted to hear it before he bought. I let him try mine. He liked the sound. Left, came back a couple of weeks later with his old Bassani said thanks, gave me the pipe and left. It's still hanging in the pole barn. I ought to get off my ass and put one of those early ones together. I've got a Canadian 1100 F roller with the gold banana wheels, forks and swing arm looking for a home......................If it only wasn't so damned much fun riding the REX............

My 82 has a set of Supertrapps with 7 baffles on each side and a slick addition. Are any of you guys old enough to remember "Snuff-R-Nots"? I had a set on my first bike a Honda CB 160, a twin with a high left side twin pipe exhaust You took the muffler off and threw it away, and in it's place through a small hole in the side of each pipe you put this threaded piece with a washer welded on it through the hole with another washer a spring and a blind wing nut. Turned one way the washer inside the pipe restricted the flow to the hole in it. Rotated 90 degrees it was WFO and it let the bike make lots of noise. Well, somebody got the idea to make end plates for the Supertrapp that did the same thing but in a different fashion. The end plates were machined out of solid aluminum, had a small hold through the center where an allen screw went through and fastened to a plate that looked like a 4 bladed fan with two opposite blades broken off and the other two flattened. There were also two fairly large slots milled in through the plate so that they were either covered by the remaining blades or open by the spaces. With 7 baffles it didn't make much difference in the sound of the exhaust but I thought it might be a good tweak if it ever decided to run rich at altitude. Something else I never tried.........

White Bros made those...actually Jeff Tutobene, former Jardine AMA Superbike exhaust fabricator, made those.
I tested the first prototype pair and we made a few mods to enable them to go into production.
80 hp with 6 plates, closed.
86 hp with 12 plates, closed
90 hp with 6 plates and the Snuff R Nots open.
    Otherwise stock 79 CBX.

    Re: I wasn't looking for a 79 CBX...

By the way, I like the looks of the custom HONDA sticker instead of the OEM emblem, the shape of the CBX tank was closely supervised by old man Honda himself and your sticker really cleans up the beautiful lines on the tank.

A little history tidbit, one of the design engineers for the CBX was sent to France to observe some of the street customs that were being built from production bikes by the hooligans of that era, much like the mods we do to our ZRXes now.

He went to bike gatherings there in France for two days and nights, on the second night he went back to his hotel and sketched the rear tail section. Flew back to Japan the next morning and showed the sketch to the design team, they all were disappointed and the lead engineer scolded him for wasting two days in France and bringing back "this whale tail" his exact words.

The lead engineer refused to show the whale tail design to Soichiro Honda but he found about it and demanded to see it, a day went by and nothing from the old man, the engineer thought he was going to be fired for wasting the projects money. The next day S. Honda approved the tail design which also eventually affected the over all look of the CBX and other Honda's of that time period.

Giannis, Got the stickers! I couldn't ask for any better service. Thank you!!!

Stupid little oil line washers caused a delay in installing the motor. Honda was closed on Monday, so I'm off to Albuquerque to the dealer who has them in stock.

I need some of those screw on tips for my NGK plugs. You'd think they would be in the box...WTH?

I could use a shifter shaft seal. It's got a number on it but I can't read it.

I found that flasher relay for 7 bucks and some change.

Motor should be in today with a bit of luck. Always the small things.

i should have a pretty slick exhaust in a few weeks. For now, it's the D&G.

These were new boots. The 3 carbs on the right did not want to go in. I was going to loosen the carbs on the rack so they'd fit better. I decided against it. Glad I did. I'm to close to finishing it to open up that can of worms. With a lot of cussing and some brute force, they finally went on.

Any idea where to look for a beat 79-80 speedo for parts...Dave...Jeff?

Something you might want to consider. Check for the free operation of the choke shafts. It typically takes some doing to get them to release in unison. They can hang up if there's any misalignment at the center joint. Those things have to be Hirohito's revenge. Wait till you go to hook up the throttle cables. If you have a problem,PM me

    Thanks, Dave.

You know what? When I was horsing those carbs on, I must have pressed too hard in the center on the linkage. Some kind of clip popped off that looked like a Bobby Pin. I was glad I saw what I did and fixed it. I found out first hand how delicate those carbs are, especially the linkage. It's very easy to tweak them when you are putting the carbs on the manifolds.

I hope the pod setup doesn't put too much weight on the back of the carbs. The guy who sold me them said I should make some straps to hold the pods up to the frame so the carbs dont fall off. Have you heard of that happening? That would certainly ruin your day.

I use a couple zip ties to hold the carbs stable, I doubt they would fall off but you don't want them flexing up and down.

That looks like an 80 frame. or a modded 79. The horizontal gussets in the V of the frame at about where the lower edge of the sidecover sits didn't exist on the 79. Did on the 80, but it might have been added.

Those pipes sure are pretty. Some of the Australian CBX guys were making a 6 into 6 out of stainless, and if I remember correctly there was an outfit in South AFrica doing the same thing. Sure are pretty (I guess I said that already)..Might say it again.
