I had a pair of Held Galaxy gloves that were $230 new. Worth at least that. I sold them to a board member at some point. Guessing that member is easily as pleased with them as I was.
About six months later, I bought a pair of Dainese Full Metal Racers. They were $299 and they're what I wear to this day. Worth every penny.
Next pair will probably be Held Titans. Those retail for $349.
Excellent gloves use things other than simple leather (kangaroo leather, stingray hide, titanium, Kevlar) to enhance comfort and protection.
My guess is that the Alpinestars gloves are probably worth it. Buy the cheap ones and the Alpinestars. Have your girlfriend's brother take you for a spin in his car. With your seatbelt fastened, open the passenger door and drag your gloved hand along the pavement at about 80. Retract hand after 20 seconds. Repeat with other brand. This will provide empirical data. Recommend you start testing with the Alpinestars, doing otherwise may abrogate the need for the second test.
