    Coolant odor, no fluid loss.

Bought a used 03 ZRX1200R w <9000mi. The odor is present when the engine warms up and I can see some discoloration at the hose clamps, but the fluid level is good. So the leak seems minimal and likely steaming off. Is it advisable to have the o-rings in the tubes replaced if I decide to pull the radiator down and replace the hoses, etc? Local performance shop, that seems to know allot about the ZRXs said pulling the steel tubes is a bugger.

Also, the rubber grommet is still in the middle of the screen. I've heard some take it off before it rubs a hole in the radiator. ????

BTW, love this bike. First REAL MC since I sold my Madura 1200, twenty years ago.

First look under the bike on the clutch side to see if there is any antifreeze residue. If so order new O rings for water pump. Dave Ditner in the parts for sale. http://www.zrxoa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=177390

Then get in touch with some local rexers Bossracer,RC51rider, Budzrx, and many more you are in the ZRX heartland. Take advantage of it. Hell they might already know your 03.

Pull the tank and snug down the hose clamps on either side of the thermostat housing (the thing you pour the coolant into). Based on your description, that is most likely where your slight leak is occurring.

May also try putting a new cap on. Cured that problem for me.

Yup, a dribbling cap overfills the coolant tank and the vent is back by the taillight.

Also check for pinholes in the radiator spraying back behind the rad.

Re: Coolant odor, no fluid loss.

ok, slightly different, & different bike a 96 GPZ, but weird & something to think about.

last year I smelled collant myself, looked everywhere never found a leak, never noticed a loss of collant, well I just found it, havent pulled it apart yet, but one of the hoses I assume is deteriotated inside, & when it gets hot, it weeps through the strings, that are between the layers of rubber in the hose, yep, weeps though several strings, talk about almost nothing of a leak, & outer hose isnt leaking yet.

came on here looking to see if I could find an online source for a hose, or if I have to deal with my local dealer that I despise.
