    Head Pipe Dissection (PICS)

I dissected my old stock ZRX head pipe as I was making two pipes into one pipe for my kz1000p. Here are pictures of what is really inside those non California model head pipes.

The last piece of the pipe and the stock silencer I used to make a 4 into 1 for my kz1000p. I can change out the silencer for a noisier slip on no problem.

Very cool ... I wouldn't mind having an extra pipe so you could lower the pipe for hard bags while traveling. Looks very good!

So the question is why is everything so thick? It's like the headers are one giant muffler. I'm assuming all OEM headers are like this? Do you think there's some sort of kickback for Kawasaki from aftermarket exhaust manufacturers?

Noise insulation mostly. There's no body work to help shield exhaust noise so the pipe is used to do that work.

Same reason there is a noise damper plate on the inside of the clutch cover as well.

Funny how strict noise restrictions add weight, which reduces fuel mileage and increases emissions as a direct result of the extra work the engine has to do to compensate. But along comes an all electric car that makes almost no noise at all and the Feds suddenly are imposing laws requiring the car to make car noises so pedestrians can hear it coming.
    Stupid is as stupid does.

    Interesting.

    thanks 4 the pics.

it's no wonder these bikes wake up so much with just a pipe and jetkit.

    now,
I assume the 1100 and 1200 pipes are built the same?
with the exception of crossover tubes on the headpipe...
