    my deal/old post followup

Given the degree of lack of communication I thought I'd throw this out there on the list to update everyone regarding an old post of mine in which I offered to help:

So a while back I said I'd try to build the centerstands. I was premature. I was/am recovering from major neck surgery after an accident (rear ended on bike on interstate by pickup truck) and at that time the dr's were giving me lots of optimistic timeframes. now it looks like I will have a degree of permanent impairment to be determined. That said I am trying to make a business of my welding, finally get certified, etc. until the settlement hopefully comes through and I can pay my debts I still have bills etc.... I have sold my bike (albeit to a good friend, but he's a few hundred miles away) so I can't use it as a template anymore, but I will happily do my best to help out in this situation in any way I can as my capabilities allow. That includes copying existing stands, working with chuck to supply parts or source new suppliers, whatever. I'll work on whatever helps is the important part. Just let me know - I'll work with chuck or whoever else. I don't care and am not personally invested in any way (don't even have a bike), so whatever - but I also love the zrx and the day I can trust my spinal ford to send signals to the rest of my body at all times, I'll be back on one..... plus I should really make one for my friend in case I can buy it back from him in another couple years......

Thank you. But I've gotta do something! I'd rather struggle with my difficulties and accomplish stuff and work. Also, bills don't pay themselves. It has been a long time since I've been able to do much. now that I'm kinda sorta getting there I really want to get back working again..... but we'll see... I'll post up as I learn more about what I can handle.....

It's ironic, but everyone hates to go to work unless they aren't able to.

Someone said that Chuck 'bought the farm'- is that a euphemism for something I have no idea about or has he bought some agricultural land to work upon?????? BTW I saw 'screw the pooch' elsewhere in that thread. What does that mean?????????????

"Screwed the pooch," meaning "made a terrible mistake," is a
cleaned-up paraphrase that author Tom Wolfe popularized. Wolfe's book
"The Right Stuff," which dealt with the early years of America's
manned space program, used the phrase "screwed the pooch" in
describing a calamitous error made by Mercury Astronaut Gus Grissom:

"But now - surely! - it was so obvious! Grissom had just screwed the
pooch! In flight tests, if you did something that stupid, if you
destroyed a major prototype through some lame-brain mistake such as
hitting the wrong button - you were through! You'd be lucky to end up
in Flight Engineering. Oh, it was obvious to everybody at Edwards [Air
Force Base] that Grissom had just .....ed it, screwed the pooch, that
    was all."

(from page 230 of "The Right Stuff," by Tom Wolfe)

The original military term (with an asterisk which I've substituted
for a vowel) was ".....ed the dog," which generally referred to
military men goofing off on the job, rather than to catastrophic
    errors:

    "Screw the Pooch
The phrase screw the pooch, meaning to mess up, commit a grievous
error, was made famous in Tom Wolfe's book The Right Stuff. The phrase
is a euphemism from US military slang. The original expression was
..... the dog and meant to waste time, to loaf on the job.

..... the dog dates appears in print for the first time in 1935, but in
1918 another euphemistic version, feeding the dog, appears. The
original sense dates to 1918. Over the decades, the meaning shifted to
the current sense and the screw the pooch wording took the place of
    the original phrasing."

    Etymologies & Word Origins
    http://www.wordorigins.org/wordors.htm

"The phrase 'screw the pooch' itself was derived from an earlier
phrase that was quite familiar to those of us in the service in WW2. I
was a Fire Control Computer technician (Fire Controlman) in the US
    Navy 1944-1946.

Anyone who has ever been in the military has spent an inordinate
amount of time in a 'stand-by' formation waiting for someone to get
the orders to start some activity. Many man-hours were spent in an
activity that was commonly known as 'Effing the dog.' [Note: They
didn't really say, 'Effing,' but I'm sure you can figure it out.] Back
home in civilian life this was cleaned up to the slightly more
    acceptable 'screwing the pooch."

Chuck really did buy a farm and apparently he has dissasociated himself with the OA, but the American expression means: he died.

I assume you guys are aware of the portable center stand I make. Copyguy knows all about it. Not quite the same idea, but what I choose to use. I seriously pulled my hair out getting it dialed in. Big investment in time. And yes, I keep a # of them on hand and ready to paint and ship.
Just trying to help, I sincerely hope you all get your stands.
