    2005 silverado 1500...... service 4WD

Been going on for a while, and finally complete utter failure. Used to be able to turn truck off and it would reset. Now no lights, light up on selector switch, but seems to be in 2HI and drives fine. I've done some research, and most point towards the selector switch, some say a bad ground, or a bad transfer case position sensor, and a possibility of bad motors/servos. Some research has shown when theres a bad ground, different lights will flicker, but that has yet to be seen, except when it finally failed catastrophically while the wifewas driving it(ofcourse it would happen then!).... and no flicker of nothing since or before.......

Under the circumstances for this failure(no lights on switch, telling you what mode you're in), tells me the switch went..... but yet, it failed after getting alot of snow, so I'm thinking maybe a bad ground or sensor. But it has failed(rarely) during summer time, but 4wd rarely gets used then.

I've got her in the garage thawing out to diagnose tomorrow, but any input/direction is appreciated....I know we have some GM techs on here somewhere.....

i'd check the switch first.have someone move the switch settings and get a test light under the truck at the solenoid and see if its switching.other than that good luck with it

The switch did nothing, I replaced it and it still did nothing. Another member pointed out some things I'm trying, but I really need to take it in for a drivetrain diagnostic check.

The only thing thats changed is the service 4wd warning has cleared, but still no 4wd.

    Re: 2005 silverado 1500...... service 4WD

The selector switch doesn't light up, I tried replacing it, but that did nothing. Went to Josh's chevy place and put it on the puter, but wouldn't interface with the 4wd brain. The 4wd fuse is good, but had to look up the acronym for the T-case fuse, found out its TREC. Checked, and its blown. Put in a new fuse, and everything lit, including service 4wd warning, but is stuck in 4hi. Some codes popped up, but josh said they made things vague. Anyway, put it on the lift, tapped the actuator and encoder motor, and right as it went to 2hi, it popped the trec fuse again. I just replaced the actuator, and josh is thinking its probably the encoder sensor........which is on back order.

When I take it in to get the sensor replaced, he'll have the motor on hand in case this one is bad, and see what happens.

For future reference, the 4wd fuse is inside beside the dash, the t-case fuse or trec is under the hood, on 2005's that is. Check these before doing anything, don't do what I did.

I have an encoder motor you can try. If it works and you want to keep it, I'll take $40. If not, just send it back....
