    I like it!

    Brings back memories, too.

In the mid 70s, I worked at the local dealer. Today they are also have Suzuki and BMW, but back then you were (mildly) frowned upon if you rode anything but a Kawasaki.

One of my many jobs was to get clean up all the trades. I liked that part of the job, because I was also allowed to take them home evenings and weekends. Used Kawasaki triples sold fast, so I never “had” them for more than a day or so.

Late in the summer, we got a nice GT-550, and I adopted this one for a time period that exceeded the dealer’s tolerance level – especially when I rode it on an organized group ride. Joe (the boss) took me aside and said, “Mike, this doesn’t look good. We’re a Kawasaki shop and there you are, riding a Suzuki all the time.”

I understood. I put the bike back in place among the rest of the used machines and switched back to my 400 Triple. Although I had several bikes at the time, all my money was in dirt bikes (which weren’t all Kawasaki either).

    Bikes that I still have:
2006 KLR-650 <~~~ in California, I haven't seen it for over a year. My wife says it's still there
    2004 KLR-650
    2002 ZRX
    2000 KL-250 Super Sherpa
    1998 KLX-300
    1992 KDX-200
    < big time gap >
    1978 Montesa Cota 348
    1976 Suzuki GT-750
(all of the above bikes are in running condition)
1975 Suzuki GT-750 (my original, now a parts bike)
    1974 Suzuki RV-125
    1974 Kawasaki 175 F7

Re: Any ZRX owners have vintage bikes?

Father in law just gave me a project he got in a multi bike buy. He wanted the 1969 Honda CB165 with less than 1500 miles on it, but had to take all three bikes to get that one. He doesn't have much interest in anything dirt related, so I ended up with a 1975 Kawasaki F7 175cc dual sport 2-stroke with 1,334 miles. It was parked too close to a wood stove at one point, but other than a few minor issues, it's pretty cherry.

I will post some pictures once I take some, I'm planning on starting it sometime soon now that kart racing season is over.

I have a blue one that needs a lot of attention that I can't give it. If you would like it as a parts bike or to fix for yourself let me know.

Thanks, I may send you a list and see what you have and we can work something out. I don't think I can justify driving all the way to NC in my pickup getting 13mpg for a parts bike.

Here she is, it was in a garage that had a small fire in it, woodstove. It was the closest to the stove and covered with one of those old table cloths, that's what's melted to the seat. A little rough around the edges, but for the most part, pretty cherry compared to my last resto. I was off by 4 miles, it's 1337.

I had 2, then sold them to buy the ZRX.

1982 Kz1000CSR. Rode this one NY to Utah and back in '06. Good times.

This one, 1978 Kz650b was sitting outside for 6+ years before I got it for free!! Countless hours spent rebuilding it over a winter and rode for one season. Kid I sold it to fried the wireharness, tried to "cafe" it and then tried to sell it nonrunning for double what he bought it. My buyer screening process has been improved since.

That was my first bike when I was 20. (I don't count the Honda Trail 90 as a kid).
Just a great basic bike that ran well but not too well for my skills. I used the back brake and still do - no way to get in trouble with that drum...

Bought a 1997 Yamaha YZF1000R Thunderace last week with less than 12k miles. It's a bit rough around the edges. The body panels are all trashed from the PO dropping it twice (both low speed parking lot falls). I think some people really shouldn't ever attempt to ride a bike (this PO was one of those).

You rate a '97 bike as a vintage bike?

My ZRX is a '97. and it's the youngest of my bikes.

So the thread should be renamed: Any ZRX owners have other vintage bikes?

    Nevertheless: Nice, well-groomed moped!

I rate any bike where parts are no longer available from the factory as a "classic". This one is fixing to be 16 years old and was only imported one year - so yes, within the scope of the tread and the OP's intent I would consider it "vintage". Besides, you could say the bike is 3 decades old and be 100% correct...

Of note, the word "vintage" refers to the year something was made and does not necessarily reflect collectability or the "classic" nature of the item. For instance, a wine produced last year would be considered to be a 2011 vintage. Could be crappy wine or it could be great wine, but it's still a vintage 2011.
