    Held Pole Position Gloves

I've been looking for a pair of gloves for a few months and think I've found the glove I'll be happy with, the Held Pole Position. Newenough has them for $199, which is about what I want to spend. I don't do track days, but I'm aggressive on the street at times.

I even found a video review. I think I'm pulling the trigger on these...

Held gloves are great and high quality. Check EBay before you buy. You can find some pretty good deals there from time to time. If you do go through NewEnough remember to donate $1 to the ZRXOA at checkout.

    always...

it was Jake who first turned me onto Held when I visited him and Michelle last year... I know he swears by them... great construction and attention to detail...

if Jake recommends them, that's good enough for me, uh, newenough for me...

    Re: Held Pole Position Gloves

I've crashed twice in Helds. First crash was slowish maybe 35mph, second was 90mph both were on the track.

First crash the gloves were barely scuffed. The "lower friction" stingray inserts in the palms seemed to work as advertised as well. I remember hitting the pavement and catching myself on my palm - feeling pressure build in my wrist and thinking it was going to be sprained and then it started to slide. Stingray in the palm is a good thing!

Second crash did in the left glove, but the right is still wearable. After sliding 100 plus feet on some extra grippy/super abrasive asphalt I had a dime sized patch of extremely light rash on my left palm. That palm took the brunt of the crash and I slid mostly on it and my left leg. Cornerworker said it was one of the most stylish slides he'd seen as I held myself up most of the way. So the glove really took alot of abuse. The cheap $59 joe rockets I wore previously had the palms blow out on a street getoff at 40ish mph. My hands would have been hamburger if I'd been wearing them.

Only downside to these gloves is they are stiff out of the box. Need some time to break them in - then they are the most subtle feeling comfortable things you can wear!

PS. - I'm actually wearing them in my avatar prior to the get off!

    Re: Held Pole Position Gloves

Just realized you are looking at the pole positions and not the phantoms. You might want to call Sport Bike Track Gear and ask for a price on the phantoms. Brian, the dude in the video sold me mine for $205.00 on sale trackside. I also watched them sell a set to another rider for $205.00. They asked list and then came down pretty quick. That was 2 years ago.

I'm guessing they have alot of margin in these gloves and have room to deal a little bit. Nothing wrong with the pole position but the Phantom has a few extra features and if you can get it for $200 then it may be worth trying to wheel and deal.

New Enough was just having a sale on Held gloves. The ones I have were $179.

Hey, if they're good enough for me than.......... well, they're good enough for me. I can't see ever owning anything else for riding gloves.

    Re: Held Pole Position Gloves

Had one of the first imported Held sets back in the early 80's (Helimot purchase.) I've fallen on them once at high speed on the track; no damage to hands or gloves. Back then I think they were $120 or so which was a huge price for gloves then.

I still got them kicking around here someplace; I typically wear different (Ti Icon) gloves these days. I might have given them away? Can't seem to find them after viewing this post....?

    Re: Held Pole Position Gloves

I have a set of Held Steve gloves (Kangaroo hide palms). They aren't race gloves but are very well made and were comfortable from the get go.
They replaced a very old, but very comfortable pair of custom deer hide gloves I had made years ago.

Not much hard armour on the Steve version, but good padding and protection for my purposes.

    this sucks...

newenough just notified me that the Pole Position in my size are on extended back order... damn

however, to their credit, they are offering me a fully refund or a 110% credit (for my trouble)... I'll be taking the refund, but only to continue to search for a good deal on another pair of Helds

I had a pair (still have somewhere) of Held gloves I cut the cuffs off of. GREAT gloves! I bought them 1 size too small I htink but they stretched into a very comfortable glove and the kangaroo hide (?) palms and fingers are very thin...you can feel the controls almost like no gloves at all. Great gloves.

    Re: Held Pole Position Gloves

I'm on my third pair of Held gloves. The first 2 were the Akira, both of my crashes were in the triple digit area.

First crash after sliding and tumbling about a football field, the right glove wore down just a tad for me to get a blister from the heat.

2nd crash was a pretty serious slide on my right side with my hand pinned under the bar end for a while, palms barely split open but no road rash.

I now have a pair of the Phantoms, very nice fit and finish. Only thing I don't like about them is that during very hot days the palms get sticky. I finally figured this out earlier this year when I thought my throttle was sticking. Replaced the cables just to make sure and finally realized it was the glove.
    Better Days!

Just rode 150 miles yesterday with my new pair of Held Dark Steve (solid black) gloves. Size 10 (XL) fit perfectly with no break-in needed and they were comfortable on a '08 ZX-10, '98 SuperHawk, and a '97 Bandit 1200. Excellent build quality with kangaroo palms and Pittard leather uppers and very secure Velcro retaining straps.
