how many oil filter manufacturers can there be?

thinking oil filters, like tires, probably are made by 3 or 4 different companies and then just branded by the retailer. Like the hundreds of different tire brands you know? All made by the big 3 or whatever tire factories. I'm looking with Google hoping to find some facts to back up my speculation and see hundreds of "manufacturers" for oil filters, filtration products, stuff like that. I just can't imagine there are that many factories that put together oil filters. I know Amsoil filters are supposed to be good but which company makes them? On the shelf in my garage I have K&N spin-ons, Purolator,NAPA ( Balkamp?) Amsoil , sheesh, probably more if I was better organized . I just purchased 6 NAPA "Gold" spin-ons for the bike and he let me have them for $7.79 + tax--great deal for sure. Then I go to Kragen to get oil and see the K&N's there for $13.90 , also Mobil1 filters, Wix, FRAM :Dan0: Purolator and Pennzoil. Sheesh, how many different factories can there be? Do I want to spend almost $14 on a filter that's made in the same place, by the same method, same materials, as a $7 filter? I think there must be some conspiracy going on just to keep me ignorant- it's working--I don't know what to do. I want to run a quality product , no point in saving 6 bucks if it's at the price of little chunks of metal floating right through the filter and back by the place where they originated over and over. I need some facts and I'm not sure where to get them. At least with tires I can "feel" some difference and make a decision based on that but with an oil filter how do I know what I'm getting for my money?

NAPA Gold filters are made by WIX, I don't know about the other 2 lines of filters (lower price points) NAPA sells.

Buy a friggin' Kaw filter. I can get them for ewe for cost plus 20% if you are a skinflint. The Honda 750 filters are exactly the same brand/part and they'll cost a buck less than the Kaw filter at retail.

also, google "oil filter tests" and you'll find dozens of sites where guys have tested the snot out of filters, drilled, cut, measured flow and filtration, and list who and where each filter is manufactured and branded

okay! I decided. NAPA Gold or Purolator Pure0ne---since my NAPA guy is treating me like a mechanic and selling me the Gold's at less than 8 bucks per filter it is the one I will look for. I have quite a few K&N's to use and some Amsoils too but NAPA Gold will be my first choice. I've done all the reading I am willing to and now have oil on the brain but I'm happy with my newfound knowledge and stuff.Funny, they make fun of Fram in there too!

okay. Read too much on MC specific oils now too. I will run the Mobil110 40 Black Cap when I can get it and the Rotella Synth 5 30 when I cannot get it. case closed. I don't mind spending 9 bucks for the 10 40 Mobol1 even though I am a little worried about the days I ride when it's really hot and am using only 10 40. That's what Kawasaki recommends for viscosity though so I should be okay I guess. Wow. Sure is nice to finally have my mind made up about filters and oil. It's a relief. See me here no more men and thanks for the links, advice, and funnies too! Longhaired fatguy porkchop fingers over and out.

Plus it's smaller, 25ounces empty! and I practiced enough to be able to do the breakdown to spring replacement with my eyes closed. I'm good to go.But broke.

with the industry switching from spin on filters back to cartridge filters, it would be easy for new players to jump in, no more metal parts, just pleated paper, rubber seals and some glue to make them
