Re: Brent: History of the ZRXOA?

why did you change your screen name to DARE-NS-ZRX?

if i may, i think it sort was the style early on, but when there started to be thousands of members, i guess it became less lntresting. a few guys still do it.

plus, i think as the functionality of the board got better, people wanted to have a more personalized experience. the early board was not very sophisticated. the url was also www.zrx1100.com, i think, which had to change for obvious reasons.

I had signed up with the old forum, but forgot the name (Darin..something??). And logon info?

Thanks looking for name change soon.

    James Madison:
If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands;they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, everything, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress…. Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America.

Re: Brent: History of the ZRXOA?

My story: I found the "board" while working in Charlotte, NC at the Corning Construction site (Concord, NC)......that was back in the summer of 1999, I believe. I remember seeing graphic photos on the board of some guy who had wrecked and had all sorts of hardware (pins, screws, rods, etc) poking through his arm.....in traction. I don't recall his board name tho. I bought my 2000 Rex in November of 1999 and .........the rest is History, as they say!! Not too much time later, Jinkster came out with his "Deathgrip" doo-lolly and then the fork stabilizer. And other members started making parts as well. I attended the first (and second) ZRXOA Breakfast in Daytona (was served GREEN eggs & ham) with Rob Muzzy & company......Down the Hatch Resturant near the Lighthouse, then at a Speedway Suite the second year. Ricky Gaston was there along with other Big K Riders......way kool for this little guy.

Re: Brent: History of the ZRXOA?

I was doing a little research. Couldn't decide between the Rex and a VFR800. Started reading more and more stuff here. Back in the day the board was like an email list. Uncle Bob (Ryan) could and would step you thru any fix/maintenance issue/mod you wanted. I can't remember his old board name right now. I spent more and more time online since I'm not big on TV. This place swayed me to the Rex. Don't even own a Rex anymore but I'm still here. Then I up and went to a rally (big step for a moderately shy guy) and have been hooked ever since. Met some peeps I can honestly call good friends. An instant trust.

I'm #274. Had I figured out how to join sooner I would be in the top 100.

I'm just glad it happened. This site helps me to enjoy my bike even more, much more. I only met thirty or forty of the ZRXOA members which was at the first annual KOTF and it was like a brief moment in time. I hope to meet even more this year and stay longer. The ZRXOA has made parties like this possible. Keep up the excellent work. Regards Glenno

Re: Brent: History of the ZRXOA?

I have wanted a REX since I first laid eyes on the 1999 ZRX1100. Of course, I sure was happy that they made a proper REX in 2001.

I lurked here a couple - three times back in 2004 and 2005, but I told myself that "it was not proper" to join until I actually owned a REX. I don't get online much, either, so it wasn't really an issue for me. At the time, I did know that other members did not own a ZRX, but I still didn't want to join until I was an owner. Don't ask me why. Now I know that I shouldn't have been so principled.

I was in Iraq surfing the net in August of 2005 and read that Kawasaki was no longer making a ZRX1200R. Well, I immediately emailed my wife and told her to start calling Kawasaki dealers and find a leftover 2005 REX. As I said, I had wanted one for years, and I always figured I'd be able to afford one next year, but I never did buy one. I am a finicky bastard, so I wanted a new one in perfect shape. I asked around and actually got a new one pretty cheap, which was good, as I hadn't figured the REX into my budget.

Once I got back from Iraq, I didn't get online much, so I didn't hit the board too often. I got activated again in December 2007 for Afghanistan, and started lurking on the board ever since. I usually leave my computer on and open this page every chance I can, just to keep posted on REX info. I've only met one member in person, but I can see that there are people here who have hearts made of gold. I WILL make a rally in 2009. No more work related excuses. I'm living life to have fun from now on. Life is too short to work your life away.

Good people here! I'm proud to be a member.

I went home, got online and looked around for info. Aside from a few Japanese sites, I could not find anything. So I made a webpage and added a message board and e-mail list and went hunting....

The very first person I ever contacted about the new formed ZRX1100 Owners' Association was Jim Bazz. I located him in an AOL chat room.... using the screen name ZRX11Jim (I was ELRrep99). I told him of the website and asked he come take a look.

    He became ZRXOA#2
I still think we first made contact earlier than in the Cycle World magazine chat room on AOL, since I had my 99 ZRX sitting in my garage back in December 1998. Brett and I have gone back and forth on that over the years...like two old coots who can't remember squat.

It was a lot of fun back in those first few months of ownership....I was on the phone daily with every aftermarket company I could think of, trying to see who was goign to make stuff for the ZRX, constantly updating the info threads. First dyno runs, getting one of the first 2 megaphones Muzzy created, dynojets stage 3 kit, having fun with my drillpress that winter in the back room of my house, etc.

A lot of good excitement back in those first years.

Re: Brent: History of the ZRXOA?

Some good stories in here. Mine was I lurked for about a year, I just did not trust giving a website my personal info. I think I first saw it in January 2002, then I bought my rex in March of 2003 and signed up I think in January of 03, asked some questions, then pulled the trigger.

I met zrexmike, bruce, uncle bob, and some others along the way. Zrexmike helped me god only knows how many times. And I really appreciated that.

I got banned I think 3 times, 2 were unjust and I was allowed to come back. Basically over bullshrimp, baby stuff. I acted like a kid sometimes, trying to express my freedom of speech, where I learned the only freedom you have here is what chuckc and the other mods allow you to have.

My buddy ran a website back when the dot.coms were everywhere, it was a porn search engine where he would literally send me 300-500 photos a day in my mailbox. So I thought I would share.

He now has a website for web design and has a huge following, it is called bakermedia. I really dont speak with him anymore, but I go on there from time to time to get some pics.

I think when I first registered my bike I was in the low 2000, but it took almost a year to figure out how too, I was not to computer savy back in the day.

Anyways, I have seen much drama on here, I was in the middle of some if it But all in all, I think this is part of my life, I am not sure where else I could go to tell what happen in my life, vent about some dumbschit, or anything else.

I am a member of some diesel boards, and none of them can even compare to the zrxoa.

By the way, maybe I missed something, but where is Howard?

I found this site in early 2000, same time I bought my ZRX. I spent a lot of time looking, but not much posting. I rode my ZRX quite a bit at first, then not so much. The site has changed a great deal from the early days. I was at Mid-Ohio in 2000, and I think one of the members there gave me my "Caterpillar Cruise Control", the yellow o-ring throttle lock. It is still on my bike. The ZRX and I have not spent much time together lately, but last Sunday I took it for a near 400 mile sprint through the highlands of Pocahontas county WV. Fell in love with the bike all over again. I will be coming here often again, and I am glad to see that the ZRXOA is strong.

    Ride Safe everybody!!!
