    Daveman and teh mouse...

Soooo how did we get there and what are we doing you askk????????

Well thill kinda went away for me personally for the weekend , altho it was great to see everyone (different thread).. So I get a call Sat nite from Daveman checking in and I discover
he will be up this way visiting family..With some encouragement, I managed to tempt him into
a lil mind clearing exercise using Grass Valley/ Nevada City area as a meeting point..
Since neither of us were on Rexes, we kept this in the stealth mode.. Besides , it was spur
of the moment . I had met Dave at teh GV coffee shop teh day , almost a year ago, that he
had purchased teh beuatiful SUzook... This was gonna work great since I still needed a
couple hundred break in miles on the duc.
The ride up into the Sierras was fairly uneventful except for noting that the weather was
    chilly but exceptionally clear

Hooke up with Dave at the coffee shop and the two of us decided I would lead
wherever (Holding the duc to 6 grand for breakin , there would be no staying
    with Daveman) ..
I DO love Hiwy49 north of Nevada City and so off we went with my promise to Dave that if we
hit the snowline, we could always backtrack ....

Well from Nevada City to Downieville is a great MC road but today it had a lot of running
water, sand and mush across teh road in spots..With that in mind and since it was such a
great day weather wise, we continued to Downieville at a cautiosly moderate pace..

Stopping for a short break at Dville and to apologize to the cruiser rider for the pass aways
back , we gassed up and hung out in town for a few minutes . There just happens to be
snow laying on the ground and the roof of the building, but I Promised Dman that it would
be minimal the way we were headed..

Both Dave and I wandered a bit as with left Dville and rode along the crystal CLEAR river
with teh fresh snofall feeding eht fast moving waters.. I can't describe how that water
looked and SHOULD have taken pics but the road was STILL mushy , sandy and bad in hte
shady areas..Difficult finding decent places to pull over..Up to this point it had been high 40s
so Dave was hanging in there ok.. I was wearing heated gear and had to keep remembering
we needed thaw-Stops as the temps began dropping and the speed picked up...

Here are a few shots from along the way...

The higher we got the colder it got and the more white stuff laying around..( STILL beautiful
    day out tho )

Up on top we cleared the summit and this was the first time I had seen the Valley
below COVERED in snow..Did I mention It was getting COLD ...But Dman was sticking with
    teh program

    .So here we are..

And just what are we looking for????? Well how about our common sense for riding at 6000 feet
    in hte Sierras in February
Much to my surprise, the roads cleared a bit but the temps kept creeping down, I just turned
the heat up ..Dave was wondering what the wind chill is in 39 degree weather at 90 plus mph
We stopped in Quincy , gassed up and headed on home via the Feather River Canyon. The
road was super clean ( almost ), light traffic, and it actually warmed up some as I rolled the Duc
over the 600 mile breakin and felt secure in adding a few more RPMS on hte sweeping
    Canyon Highway...

Here we are stopped at Pulga for the final fun-run to the top ..

Looking past the duc at canyon...Notice all the nasty sand thrown over to the edge....

With very little imagination, it is easy to "see" boulders breaking loose from teh sheer walls
and falling down to and onto hte hiway...Out here " Beware of Falling Rocks" means something during the rainy/snow season...

Well we are thru for the day and I wanta thank Dman for helping me put those important
miles on hte Duc..Next time it hits the road I can wind her up all teh way to 7 grand and I
can't wait cause it sure starts getting an attitude when the numbers start climbing..Yeah
I slipped once or twice on todays ride and MAYBE exceeded breakin by a lil bit

Teh highlight of the event was/is that I can honestly say I led Daveman across some Norcal roads on a great day In February... Well except for the short section when I could tell he was so cold he figured he HAD to get to a warm spot SOON!! Unfortunately, the advanced speed at which he took off soon created a chill factor which slowed him and allowed me to easily reel him in I am surprised his fingers didn't just fall off from the cold!

Did I mention I had on heated gear :

Looking forward to the next one my friend..

He's....he's ...he's staunch. Low temps and uncomfortableness only piss him off.

    Is that a 1000 or 750 he's running?

That was a cold day on the trail.

I remember Charley asking me something to the effect of "where are we going" and I said "lead the way". :
