Okay just got my Ivan's kit yesterday.. Standard for stock or modded airbox. I have the stock pipe still (may get a slip on later but money's tight since I dropped cash for the bike) and I'm going to do the airbox mod (on top of box not cover).

My big question after reading this is about the clip and washer position? Does someone have a picture of what the clip looks like on 3? And which way to you go to richen/lean and the same with the washers??

I'm really new to this but I'm a decent mech, it's the simple stuff that's got me mixed up. I read in this post that someone needed to put together some sort of database for the settings, has anyone done this? Pictures are always awesome!!

Thanks guys and be gentle, I think this is only my second post!!

clip positions (notches in the needle) are viewed 1 through 5 from the fat end of the needle, 1 being the leanest setting, 5 being the richest setting.

3rd clip is the e-clip in the middle notch with all three required shims (washers) on top of the clip.

1/2 clip positions are raising the needle by putting one shim (of the 3 required) under the e-clip, thus raising the needle (richer) 1/2 the distance of moving the e-clip down (toward the skinny end) 1 notch. Putting 2 shims under the clip is the same as moving the clip 1 notch, so it isn't done.

    needle Spring Problems

Ditto on the detailed Ivan's instructions.
However I do have two questions.
Got the carbs off the bike, drained the floats bowls and now I'm replacing the needles.
First the washer do go on top the E-clips right?
And second, is there some trip to getting the spring not to buckle when replacing the top?
I spent 15-20 minutes trying to get the top back on without the spring buckling inside???

    thanks and regards,
    Dave

Depends on what your trying to do:
one washer under = a half needle setting
The rest of the washers go on top to help keep the needle set..

Be Very careful when puttin the plastic tops back on... those rubber diaphrams are close to $100.... A piece!

Just keep the spring centerd on the lid and take your time, should go on pretty easy...

My bad on the spring, put the spider in upside down. Finally got it in there the wrong way and discovered the error or my ways when I started on the second one. It took me fifteen minutes to do the last three and fix the first one. Darkness crept in on me, but I got the jets swapped out. I bought the Ivan's jet kit and a full muzzy system from him, so he already put the e-clip on there and as per his instructions, I dropped three washers on top of that. Tommorow I take the covers off the adjustment screws and get it all back on the bike. The only thing I'm a little foggy on is synching the carbs.

    Thanks for the help.

    Big Swifty,
Thanks for taking the time to help everyone out with this. I have been having a problem with my Rex( running real rough at 2 to 5k) and the shop can't take it in until July. I've had it with waiting and I am going to tear it apart this weekend. You instructions will be invaluable since I don't know jack about how these things work. Thanks again.
Hey look at that. Tha cop car shut down at a buck forty.

I know this has been said many times in many threads, but I'll say it again - if you're unsure of what settings to go with, call Ivan's shop directly. I finally got around to installing my kit this past Friday 6 months after buying it. I called him up, told him what I was running (modded airbox, stock header with Yosh bolt-on) and he said to go with needle clip on third groove, one shim under, 3 1/2 turns out on the mixture screws & 112 mains. I did it and the bike runs just as smooth as before everywhere in the rev range with more power everywhere. And that's without even getting to synching the carbs yet. I wish I didn't wait so long to do this - it really woke the bike up. I'm amazed at how good it's running right out of the box - no rough spots or bogging, no smelll of gas in the exhaust. I do plan on getting it dyno tuned eventually, but I feel like I could put it off for awhile and it would be fine.

I have taken the info from this thread, and some info and pictures from other threads, and combined them into a web page: Ivan's Jet Kit Installation Instructions.

Thanks to Big Swifty for the original write-up, Kaptain Kerker for the pics and support, Ivan of Rockland County for the jet kits, and all the others who provided info for this mod.

The page is oncomplete, and still needs a few pictures added, but the info is correct.
