Logmaster,
First, I assume your talking about AMA Superbike.
I haven't been to a lot of tracks, but my experiences at Road Atlanta and Barber have been great.
I don't take binoculars, the action is happening too quick and its better to watch whatever is in front of you than something that is 1/2 mile away (that comment is not limited to the bikes on the track).
I use the earplugs. It is purely personal taste, it is not so loud that it is absolutely needed.
Your question about access to the pits depends on the track and your definition of the pits. The paddock (where the bikes are prepped, worked on between races and where all the trailers are, are accessible for an additional fee (both a Barber and Road Atlanta). Road Atlanta has an additional thing they call "hot pits", it is just being able to walk right next to the actual pits on the track. It isn't worth it. With the paddock access you can basically do the same thing, your're just three feet back behind a chain-link fence.
I don't know where your planning on going, but I would highly recommend Barber. The facility is first rate and the museum is worth the trip just by itself.
Hope this helps.

After watching the MotoGp guys last year...the AMA bikes are pretty darn quiet. No ear plugs needed unless you are right by a wall.
MotoGp is another matter...not near as loud as NASCAR, but if yer anywhere near the track, put a pair in.
At Miller binos were a great help and ear plugs werent even considered.
They hopefully will make some improvements.
And we were right in the pits![]()
Talked to a coulpe who said one team (?) took their kid in the garage for a half hour, just giving him the Royal TreatmentPretty cool.
Thread jack!!
Logmaster, what part of Montana are ya from? The GF and I are coming up there the third week of August to visit GNP and Yellowstone. I came up two years ago and loved it. Been dying to come back ever since.
