Just curious, where do you get many of these? Most notably the Hastings and the WIX? Always hear about them but never know where to find them...

Hastings you can get from federated auto parts.
Wix can be found at Car Parts Warehouse.
Wix has a dealer locator on the web at www.wixfilters.com
    Hastings is www.hastingsfilter.com

Those 2 were easy for me the hard ones to find are
Baldwin P148 I finally got these from www.adiesel.com You can order them through most places that sell parts for Kenworth trucks but they will make you get a entire case (12 filters)

Big A 96940 I was told they went out of business
Knecht AF62 I can't find anything about them
    Luber-Finer P7011 Out of production
MANN MH814 they don't import to the USA, I had to jump hurdles to even order these but I should have them buy the end of March. ( Made in Germany)
Superior 21-8040 You can get at www.superior-cycle.com Mail order company out of Columbus, Ohio

part numbers are even close just like napa has a silverline and a gold line. numbers are the same except first digit.

worked with a retired hastings rep for a few years, that guy could sell dano a hastings and he'd never look back!

Well after a 3 month wait I finally got my MANN MH814 filters. I had to buy a case of them to get them in the USA and you can only get them through S-G imported car parts out of MI. I have 22 out of the 27 listed and if someone thinks the can test these things some way post up or PM me and I'll send them to you.

    Car Quest 89940

    Say Fox-Racing-Guy

I bought one of dem der 89940's from car quest Guess what? The filter is ok & comes with both O-rings, but the O-ring for the filter cover is too big!

You need a 89941 to get the right O-ring, but it does not include the bolt O-ring.

    I paid $5.29 for the 89940 & re-used my old O-ring.

I paid $6.24 for the 89941 & does not include the bolt O-ring.

    Just F.Y.I. for you.

It still beats my Kawi dealer price of $13.00 & change for tax!

    Thanks for the listing!

Thanks for the info about the O-ring, I have one of the Car Quest filters here and I never checked the size of the O-ring before but after you posted this I checked mine and it's the same as you posted.
Thanks for the info and I'll make a note on the master list up top.
For info the car quest & NAPA filter is made by WIX so if you can find one of those brands cheaper you might save some more cash.
I never worry about changing the O-rings either, I can't say I remeber EVER swapping them out and have several sets of them around the garage.

what difference does the pleat count make?

i am just curious,as there are several different counts,i could see where more would give more surfsce area but also with more pleats don't they start gettin crowded and restrict flow???????????????????????,..................................................................chris

Good question Chris and I don't have a clue, they only place I could find that would test all these filters wanted $18,000 so I passed. The only one I would NOT use based on visuals only is the Yamaha filter, it looks very poorly made.

    WOW. THANKS

    Hey there, Fox Racing Guy.
Just found this thread from the "dog ate my filters" thread.
What a great and comprehensive list of filter info. I really appreciate the info and am glad I found it. From all the talk on the board, I thought there were only TWO different filter options from which to choose: OEM and FRAM. Yes, honestly.
I'm due for an oil change and from the WIX filter link you provided I now know I can get a WIX from the local O'Riely Auto Parts.
Now if I could only get myself to buy something other than the $4 quart Kaw Chem oil from the dealer....... but that's another thread. (Maybe you could PM me with your personal choice in oil).

    Thanks.

By the way, FOX RACING GUY, I recently changed my rear tire again and it wasn't near of an ordeal as it was the first time.

More pleats, everything else being equal, means more sq inches of filter paper.

I use Mobil1 15W-50 car oil in all my bikes and I sent a sample into Blackstone labs for a oil report. You can read about it here http://www.zrxoa.org/forums//showthr...hreadid=107114
I will continue to use it!
WIx makes both the NAPA & Car Quest filters as well so if you can find them cheaper go that way.

Glad to see changing tires is getting easier for you, did you go with the Tomahawks again?

I actually came across that thread of yours in a search.
A bit over my head, but I get the jist.
I'm thinking to use the Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w. That's after reading WAY too many old threads about oil. Jesus H

We have stores in Ohio called Tractor Supply Co that stock Valvoline Motorcycle oil ( Dino ) for $2.50 a quart for people that MUST run motorcycle specific oil.

I DID go with the Tomahawks again this time. Happy with the first set and so I got another rear. Got 4.5K off the first rear. I feel good on them. I posted to a thread on here a week or so ago....something like $99 tires on Ebay. Search Tomahawk and you'll find it.
Thinking to try Avons 45/46 next time for comparison.

From what I remember the only difference between 4940 and the 4941 is the size of O-rings included in the box. I'm sure that the filter has nothing to do with your bikes smoke issue.

the cost does not matter to me as much as the ability to filter. any truck supply place should be able to get the baldwin or the hastings filters,i can get the baldwin's here local for 7.50 a piece all day long. the build quality in this is amazing b.t.w...........................................................chris
