03Z1R left the building...

Hi all,
I'm Torch, Firey Red's girlfriend. This is my first post here.

I'm writing to let you all know that I just received a phone call from 03Z1R's sister Eva today. It seems that he took his own life on Friday. His name was Eric. The aftereffects of his 9-03 crash were more than he could bear.

Eva wanted Eric's friends on the board to know what happened. We talked for quite a while, and she said that the board and his motorcycle friends were very important to him.
I'm not sure I know the protocol for posting something like this, so I'll keep it brief, and let Red take over later, after I have a chance to tell him. I told her I'd post the information for her.

As far as I know right now, nothing has been scheduled in the way of services yet. Either Red or I will keep you posted. I'll be talking to Eva later in the evening.

Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for being so supportive of Red when he went down in November. You guys were all there for him in his hour of need, and I think you are all really excellent humans!

Thanks.
Torch

Just got back from

my Sunday ride.............this is a sad day for all.

In reading his past posts, it really sounded like he was working though all the problems cause by his accident. His spirits seemed up.....I'm very sorry for him and his family!!

Just so you know, his posting his accident situation on this board may have saved many from a similar situation.

Wear your gear guys and gals....

How will the driver find out? Will someone tell him? Or was it a hit and run?

Eric and I traded emails over a Ninja 900 I had. A few weeks ago I was going to trailer it to him and give it to him so he could have something to tinker with and look forward to. He seemed very excited about it and I was happy to do something, anything for him. A couple of days before I was to leave for his house, he sent me a message saying that he hadn't recovered from his injuries like he'd hoped and that I should do something else with the bike.

I believed this to be a case of Eric knowing what was best for himself so I didn't make the trip and I didn't push the bike. I figured when he was ready, he was ready.

It's hard to know what to say so I'll just say I feel for you bro. I feel for your family and friends as well. Thanks for sharing your story with us. You left behind a lesson for many.

Godspeed Eric.

I agree Barb, Depression is very hard on people and is difficult to identify the symptoms,
if you are not familiar, I speak from experience.

Even though I never met the man, I really admired his fortitude. Eric appeared to be in a good mood despite his great ordeal and this is indeed a very sad outcome.

Godspeed brother, Your suffering is over, You are in a better place now.

This really sucks. A couple of weeks ago I got a PM from Eric that sounded really depressing and talked of his sister making arrangements for disposing of his things, etc.... And I immediately wrote back asking what was up. His response was that he was just bummed out because of the number of transfusions he had had and some recently developed heart issues.

I had no idea he was so depressed. Eric was a sweet guy in a very difficult situation. I was fortunate enough to meet him and spend a little time with him. My heart goes out to his family and I pray that he has found peace.

Well his story did convince my wife to buy gear even though she only rides occasionally and has made me wear it religiously. This group really did a great job to try to help him he just made his own choice to be free of the pain... my sympathy goes to his family.

It is a day since I read the accounting for the untimely demise of yet another friend I’ll never meet. I did not know of what happened until yesterday and so I did a search, reading all to the endpoint for the life of this man. It disturbed me so much that I had to get offline and go work on the ZRX in the garage. Yet I couldn’t seem to stop thinking about him. Had he done similar work on his bike? Did we have much in common at all? Maybe the fact that he chose the same bike I did would have been common ground enough. I knew nothing about him or his life so why did it bother me so? Perhaps it was a glimpse of my own mortality yet I’ve had enough painful reminders for this to somply pass without much notice. Perhaps it was something in his own words that allowed one to see and feel the events as he struggled to cope with the unimaginable. Maybe it was that awful moment he faced all alone. I don’t know what it is but somehow I feel diminished by the tragedy of this man. This man had a son that went to the crash sight with his father and now carries this? I feel very sad right now so I’m going to get offline and go work on the bike again. I don’t now what to say.

I PM'd Eric

I am trying to remember how it went but someone thought he might need to talk to me, being a nurse. I wrote him, PM'd, and he responded right away. We shared some private thoughts and I encouraged him, told him I thought he was definitely reaching new heights of progress (in order to encourage him) and offered to always be here for him. Now, I am ashamed I didn't persue him more. Just offered but that wasn't enough. Could I have made a difference? Probably not but I deal with the guilt anyway. I always try to help people hurting, those of you that have had hard times, you know I have but it's never enough.

To think that someone felt that they had nowhere to turn to, nobody to lean on is just unfortunate. My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to his entire family.

I hope this doesn't seem out of line but I did a search and his ZRX member number is #5706
I think it would be an awesome idea if we could make a sticker of some sort with R.I.P #5706 for our bikes. After making a donation to his son's trust fund, you would get one. This way each and every time you look at or ride your bike, you'll never take it for granted, always wear your gear, and be reminded of a rider who ultimately had his life taken from him (in one form or another) because of something he shared in common with us all. His passion for riding.

And remember, this is all because of some A**HOLE cager who couldn't take the time to just look around. !!!!!!!

Goodspeed ERIC !!!!! We'll all be up there some day, scope out the good twisties for us !!!!

i think that's a great idea

Green, I believe this has been the case in the past. It started with Hal Cline.

RIP 03Z1R

I thought about those pictures of his injuries every time I did something stupid on my bike. Now hopefully I'll remember him and his story beforehand. I believe the best way to gain from his trajedy is to learn from it. I will never ride without full gear and I will always pray a little before I ride and I will ride smart. Godspeed Eric

Here's a note from somebody who doesn't have a connection with your board, or your group; know that Eric's story is making its way around the net and there are many people who share in the pain of seeing such a tragedy unfold. I first found a link to this story from Cycleforums - and have seen it on another couple forums since.

- offering condolence to those most affected; prayers for support and peace to Eric's friends and family....RIP Eric...

I recieved a phone call this morning from Eric's mother out in Florida, we spoke for some time and she wished to express her gratitiude for all of the support shown not only by the members on this board, but from all of those who have heard of Eric's ordeal.
It has truely helped her knowing that Eric had so many who were concerned for him, and who had done what they could to help him out.

As far as services for Eric go, final plans have not yet been made, but when they are enough notice will be given so those who wish to attend will be able to do so.
I, and I'm sure others from the Phx. area who have taken the time to become involved in this very sad affair will keep everyone informed on the details.
